As the Southwestern Community College District Governing Board moves toward its first-ever creation of trustee election districts, three preliminary maps are available for community review and comment.
The maps were created based upon feedback from three public hearings and 249 public comments. Map feedback and comments are due by midnight, Sunday, Jan. 23.
“The engagement we have received from our employees, students and community members shows the high level of interest the Southwestern College community has in seeing all cities and communities in our district have a voice,” said Governing Board President Roberto Alcantar.
“By commenting on the three draft maps, our community can help us further define our representative areas so that our leadership reflects the diversity of our community,” Alcantar said.
Students, staff and community members are encouraged to review the three draft maps available in PDF format or through an interactive webpage. The maps can be seen at www.swccd.edu/elections and through the survey. For those unable to access the maps online, printed copies are available on the college’s Chula Vista campus in the hallway of Building 12 next to the Superintendent/President’s office.
Those completing the survey will be entered into a drawing for four $50 Amazon gift cards.
The Governing Board will hold a virtual public hearing on the draft maps on Monday, Jan. 24 at 6 pm to gather its first round of feedback on the maps. The public can access the meeting at https://swccd-edu.zoom.us/j/8151032072.
A second public hearing on the draft maps will be held on Monday, Feb. 28 at 6 pm at https://swccd-edu.zoom.us/j/8151032072.
The Governing Board will make a final determination on the maps on Tuesday, March 8.
