Southwestern Community College welcomed a new member to its governing board with the appointment of Kris Galicia Brown. Galicia Brown will serve through November 2024, completing the term left vacant by former Trustee Griselda Delgado. She brings a wealth of experience and an impressive background, aligned with the institution’s values that have established it as an educational cornerstone in the region:
Galicia Brown has a multitude of experience in public affairs, branding, advertising, and food industries. Her strengths lie within strategic outreach, branding & positioning and problem-solving, especially when it comes to areas of influence. She is also highly skilled in analytics and crisis communication. She is an accomplished copywriter, art director, social media influencer, content creator, and published author, Galicia Brown. She has worked professionally with large brands, local governments, non-profits, restaurants, sporting events, start-ups, and local small businesses. By way of her US Navy family, she arrived in San Diego at nine years old and has never once considered leaving. Galicia Brown holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising. She loves to read, cook, hike, and explore “hidden” San Diego. She has been involved in educational issues, serving on both Sweetwater Union High School District’s (SUHSD) District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) and Hilltop High School’s School Site Council (SSC). Galicia Brown resides near Imperial Beach with her husband and two daughters.

As the only trustee living in the coastal communities the college serves, Galicia Brown brings a unique perspective that will invigorate discussions on campus policies, education strategies, and resource allocation, ensuring the college remains a dynamic hub for learning and growth.

Preparations are underway for the welcome reception and introduction of the new trustee on Monday, September 11, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. at the Chula Vista campus outside of Room 64-238N/S prior to the start of the regularly scheduled board meeting.
