We’re starting the new decade with some big and exciting changes at Southwestern College. We have new building and room numbers, new changes coming to our annual Commencement Ceremony and information on parking.

The spring 2020 semester begins on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Yes, the semester begins on a Wednesday. Look at your schedule and see what classes have “W” under “Meeting Information.” Make sure to report to those on the first day.

If you still have questions, look for the Associated Student Organization’s “Ask Me” tables around the Chula Vista campus the first couple of days or ask the staff members at a Higher Education Center.

New Building Numbers and New Campus Map

Over the break, we renumbered every building on the Chula Vista campus to help our students and visitors better find their way. New room numbers mean a new Chula Vista campus map! Visit our Chula Vista map page to view the new campus map.

If you need help reading the new room numbers or want to learn more about our renumbering system, visit our renumbering guide online.

How to Find Open Classes

It’s easy to find what classes still have room. You may consider adding another general education class to finish your requirements or if you’re a part-time student, reaching full-time status will help you finish faster and qualify for more financial aid and scholarships.

Just follow these simple step to browse what’s still open for the spring semester:

  • Head to https://webadvisor.swccd.edu/.
  • Click on the “students” tab
  • Check “open classes”
  • Then select a department (anthropology, English, math, etc.)

A Pass on Parking

When we return for the spring semester, there will be a two-week grace period for parking permits, from Jan. 27 through Feb. 7. Parking will be very tough the first couple of weeks of school so we recommend students get there early to find a parking spot and navigate the new building numbers. The college’s newest lot, lot T, can be accessed behind the tennis courts through lots L and E.

Commencement Changes Are Coming

More than 950 students walked into DeVore Stadium on May 24 for the 58th annual Commencement Ceremony. These Jaguars made history for being the largest graduating class in Southwestern College history.

Southwestern College, for the first time ever, will hold two Commencement Ceremonies to help better accommodate students and their family, friends and visitors. Details are still being worked through, but there will be a morning and an afternoon ceremony. Students will be assigned to a ceremony based on their academic discipline.

Keep an eye on your MySWC email for more information regarding commencement, including deadlines and applications.
