The Southwestern Community College District Governing Board unanimously approved the hiring of Minou Djawdan Spradley as the new vice president for academic affairs at its meeting Tuesday. She will begin March 1.
Spradley, who most recently served as the acting vice president of instruction at San Diego City College, brings 10 years of administrative experience to Southwestern College. As Southwestern College’s new Vice President for Academic Affairs, Spradley is responsible for enrollment planning, directing the development and implementation of instructional programs and serving as the college’s accreditation liaison officer.
“I am very excited to be serving Southwestern College as the vice president for academic affairs,” Spradley said. “Southwestern College serves a population of students with unquestioned potential for whom studying at Southwestern College can make life-altering differences. Quality education is a right afforded to all of those who come through our doors.”
Spradley recently served as the acting vice president of instruction at San Diego City College, a post she had held since July 2017. She has also served as the dean of San Diego City College’s School of Engineering Technologies, Mathematics, Sciences and Nursing and dean of City College’s School of Arts Humanities, Languages and Communications.
Spradley earned her doctorate in biology from the University of California, Irvine and a bachelor of science in biology from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland.
“Dr. Spradley’s experience as a faculty member, department chair, dean and vice president give her the foundation to build upon our strengths and offer insight into our opportunities,” said Superintendent/President Dr. Kindred Murillo. “Minou immigrated to the United States from Iran, bringing with her an experience that connects her to our students’ needs and experiences.”
During her first six months, Spradley said she wants to tour Southwestern College’s four campuses and the Crown Cove Aquatic Center to understand all the programs and services the college offers.
