Your Guide to the Spring 2019 Semester

Southwestern College is getting ready to kick-off the new semester and welcome approximately 20,000 students to our campuses when the spring semester begins this Monday, Jan. 28. We know a brand new semester comes with a whole new batch of questions, so we’ve put together this guide to help you start strong.

If you still have questions, look for the Associated Student Organization’s “Ask Me” tables placed around campus the first couple of days of school.

Find Your Classes

Your schedule is almost finalized, now you just need to get to your class. You can spend the next couple of days familiarizing yourself with where exactly your classes are going to be by browsing the maps to the Chula Vista campus and our higher education centers. These new maps include all the new buildings, current construction, parking lots and more.

Note that all classes in the new Math and Science Building begin with “Room 60” and the new building is located right next to the Campus Store.

Consider Adding One or Two More Classes

If you’re looking to check-off one more requirement from your Student Education Plan, now is the perfect time to browse classes that are still open. You have until the first day of the class meeting to add a section.

Here’s how you find what’s open through WebAdvisor:

  • Head to https://webadvisor.swccd.edu/.
  • Click on the “students” tab
  • Check “open classes”
  • Select the current semester
  • Then select a department (anthropology, English, math, etc.)

You can also browse a full PDF list of open classes with no waitlist.

If you’re having issues with registration or applying, please contact the admissions department.

Commencement is Coming

Commencement 2018

Spring semester comes to an exciting end each year with our annual commencement ceremony. This year, Commencement will be on May 24 and if you want to participate you’ll need to keep a close eye on your MySWC email to learn about GradFest and the deadline to participate.

If you’re done with your coursework this semester, you’ll need to apply for a degree/certificate. The spring semester deadline is March 1 and the summer deadline is July 1.

Beep! Beep! Where Can I Park?

The brand new parking lot, Lot T.

We know that parking can be tough during the beginning of the semester, so last semester we created a brand new parking lot with more than 500 spaces. You can access the new Lot T through Lot L (baseball field) or Lot E (softball field).

There is a short grace period (Jan. 28-Feb.8) for parking on campus to give students time to purchase their parking pass through WebAdvisor. During this time you can only park in the white-lined, student spaces. Parking will be strictly enforced when the grace period ends and all students must have a parking pass to park at any Southwestern College campus.
