Southwestern College Ranked in 2019 ‘Best for Vets’ College

The Veterans’ Resource Center is the hub of veteran services at Southwestern College.

Southwestern College’s dedication to student veterans and military dependents has been recognized by Military Times with a “Best for Vets” college distinction.

Southwestern College is one of only 208 schools and only one of 33 community colleges to receive the honor. The designation was given based upon on a competitive and comprehensive assessment of veteran services, financial aid, academic achievements and veteran culture at each school.

“It is a tremendous honor that we’ve been chosen for the first time as a ‘Best for Vets’ community college,” said Jonathan D. White, coordinator of the Veterans’ Resource Center. “Everyone at Veterans’ Services is excited and humbled to be selected for this designation of excellence in serving veterans and military-affiliated students here at Southwestern College.”

Military Times is editorially independent and objective with its rigorous rankings. The magazine also used data from Veterans Affairs and the Justice Department to assess each college and university.

“Fewer than half of the roughly 500 colleges and universities that competed for the recognition earned the right to call themselves Best for Vets in 2019,” said George Altman, the Military Times editor in charge of the rankings. “Their efforts should be commended.”

Among the biggest resource for veterans at Southwestern College is the Veterans’ Resource Center. The center is a hub of many services dedicated to student veterans and offers workshops, tutoring, book exchange, a computer lab and more.
