It’s an exciting time for Southwestern College as we’re getting ready to welcome approximately 20,000 students for the fall semester on Monday, Aug. 20. We know a brand new semester comes with a whole new batch of questions, so we’ve put together this guide to help you start strong.
Find your classes
Now that you’ve finalized your schedule, you can spend the next couple of days familiarizing yourself with where exactly your classes are going to be by browsing the brand new campus map. This new map includes all the new buildings on campus, current construction, the new parking lot and more.
Consider adding one or two more classes
Hundreds of classes for the fall 2018 semester are still available, including many popular general education courses. There’s still time to register before the semester starts, so consider adding one or two more classes to finish your academic goals faster. http://www.swccd.edu/fall.
Here’s how you find what’s still available:
- Head to https://webadvisor.swccd.edu/.
- Click on the “students” tab
- Check “open classes”
- Then select a department (anthropology, English, math, etc.)
Bye, Bye Blackboard! Hello Canvas!

Blackboard has officially been phased out of all online courses and is no longer available. All your new online class components are available through Canvas. You can log in to your Canvas dashboard (and all other campus apps) through MySWC.
You can find more information about online learning, including tutorials, orientations and support, on our online learning page. The Southwestern College library is currently offering Canvas and online learning orientations.
Beep! Beep! Where can I park?

We know that parking can be tough during the beginning of the semester, so we’ve created a brand new parking lot with more than 500 spaces. You can access the new Lot T through Lot L (baseball field) or Lot E (softball field).
There is a two week grace period (Aug. 20-31) for parking on campus to give students time to purchase their parking pass through WebAdvisor. Parking will be strictly enforced beginning Sept. 4 and all students must have a parking pass to park at any Southwestern College campus.
