The Southwestern Community College District Governing Board has become the first college district board to endorse the Campaign for College Opportunity’s Blueprint for California Higher Education and “Our California” campaign.
At its Aug. 14 meeting, the board unanimously approved the endorsement and signed a call to action to the next California governor to have a clear plan for higher education that increases access and ensures success for the diverse students in California.
Governing Board Member Nora Vargas worked closely with the Campaign for College Opportunity around these issues and was proud to bring this to the Governing Board and become the first college district board to sign on to the call to action.
“This is important for us as a board to take a stand in support of this initiative,” Vargas said. “I’m excited that we’re leading the way around this work.”
The Our California campaign aims to meet the more than 1.6 million college credentials the state will need to meet its workforce demands within the next 12 years. The blueprint will focus on supporting access, completion and affordability for higher education throughout the state.
