It’s Southwestern College’s highest student honor. The Student of Distinction Award (commonly referred to as the SODA) is awarded each year to 20 incredible Southwestern College students. These students have excelled academically, are leaders on campus, have fought for their education and have demonstrated they’re working to become the best student they can be. In addition to an incredible resume line item, recipients receive a $1,000 scholarship, funded by donors to the Southwestern College Foundation.
Academics, of course, is an important qualification but the GPA requirement is set at a 3.0 because Southwestern College knows that students with challenging life experiences often struggle to make time for their academics. Students must also have a Student Education Plan, have completed 30 units at Southwestern College and must not have received a bachelor’s degree or higher. SODA recipients are parents, club presidents, students returning to school, future doctors and politicians, and so much more.
Meet this year’s Student of Distinction Award recipients and come help celebrate them and other scholarship recipients at Southwestern College’s annual Student Awards Ceremony on April 25 at 5:30 p.m. in Mayan Hall.
