Venerable Miao Zang, from the San Diego Buddhist temple Hsi Fang Temple, visited Southwestern College Wednesday to donate a 20-volume Buddhist arts encyclopedia to the College Library.
Zang met with professors and administrators to discuss the encyclopedia, its creation and importance.
Philosophy Professor Peter Bolland, who teaches Asian Philosophy and World Religions classes, said it was an amazing experience to receive such a collection.
“In all my years here at Southwestern College, I’ve never experienced anything quite like it,” Bolland said. “How often do we get to sit around and revel in our love of learning and hold in our hands the tangible evidence that there is a community of people worldwide who value humane learning as an intrinsic good, a community of which (Wednesday) I very much felt a part of.”
The collection will be on display and available to students and the community at the library.
