Things to Know – Tuesday, June 13, 2017

As we anxiously await our letter from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), I hope we are having a good summer session. As soon as we have our letter, I will send you a note, and we will post it on our website.

Tonight, is the Governing Board meeting at the Crown Cove Aquatic Center. Link to Governing Board Agenda – June 13, 2017

Of particular interest on the agenda are the presentation on the swearing in of our new Student Trustee, Rudolph Villegas, the Electronic Catalog unveiling, and the report on the Student Success Scorecard. The Student Success Scorecard (Scorecard), while it has had its moments with reliability and validity over the years, the Scorecard presents a trend of how we are doing. It is so important for us to remember that most of the students that come to our college are not often college ready, and need more assistance than students who are prepared. This is our (community college) work, and where we should really focus…helping students who need us the most, to achieve. If 77% of our students are not ready for college, and we serve over 20,000 students a semester, think about the impact we could have if we are helping these deserving students to a better life, one that has a livable wage, and maybe a future teacher/community college professor.
