CHULA VISTA, California – Southwestern College has been designated a 2017 Military Friendly School, in part because of the array of personalized veteran services offered, including a designated Student Veterans’ Resource Center.

Southwestern College received the designation from Victory Media, which publishes an annual veterans’ resource guide. Each year, the “Guide to Military Friendly Schools” helps veterans choose the best options and opportunities for them to continue their education after their service.

Victory Media awarded the designations based upon recommendations made by an independent council of leaders in higher education and the military recruitment community who evaluated each school based on student graduation rates, job placement and financial aid, especially for student veterans.

“Our veterans deserve the very best we can offer, and Southwestern College is committed to providing the programs and resources to create a warm and welcoming environment that supports our student veterans’ academic success,” said Jonathan D. White, coordinator for the college’s Veterans’ Resource Center. “It is exciting to see what the future holds, and we look forward to continue serving our honored veterans of the United States military services.”

At Southwestern College, returning veterans have access to a designated Student Veterans’ Resource Center which provides space for academic and personal counseling, a computer center and a social gathering space. The college’s Veterans’ Services Office provides financial aid and admissions specialists versed in GI benefits, as well as individual counselors.
