College seeks to feed hungry students

Southwestern College students who sometimes don’t get enough to eat now have a place to pick up some free food on campus through a new partnership with the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank.

“I think it’s wonderful for those who need it,” student Valeria Pena said about the Jag Kitchen Food Pantry, which opened Tuesday.

“This will be a really good opportunity for me and other students who need help with their food,” said Pena, 20, a family studies student who works at the Chula Vista community college’s Child Development Center.
