CHULA VISTA – Andre Harris, the president for California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter 524 at Southwestern College, has been appointed to represent community colleges on a statewide committee.
Harris, the coordinator for the Higher Education Center in National City, is the first representative on the community college committee for Area K for several years. Area K represents CSEA members in the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District, Imperial Valley Community College District and Southwestern Community College District.
“Area K hasn’t had a representative on this committee for so long that I felt it was time to end that drought,” Harris said. “What better chapter/college would greatly enhance this committee? Chapter 524/Southwestern College.”
The purpose of the community college committee is to serve as a liaison between CSEA members and committees to reaffirm community colleges’ commitment to local high schools.
As the local representative, Harris said he wants to work with his colleagues in the K-12 education system to help all students find educational success.
“We want to reinforce the bridge among our institutions and be the central conduit in having our students reach their goals of transferring to a four-year institution,” Harris said.
Harris is an excellent representative for this committee, said Southwestern College Superintendent/President Dr. Melinda Nish.
“Andre is a compassionate leader who believes in empowering employees and students,” Nish said. “He will serve our region well.”
