CHULA VISTA – Southwestern College needs tutors… and they are willing to pay a good wage.
The college is kicking off several student success initiatives in the spring, and as such is in “desperate need” of math, English, reading and English as a Second Language (ESL) tutors. Tutoring positions pay from $10-to-$17 an hour, depending on tutor experience and level of training. Hours are flexible. Students can work up to 25 hours a week.
Students are required to have a faculty recommendation and a 3.0 grade point average. They must submit their transcript and a 1.5-to-2 page essay with their application. Tutors must also enroll in Education 100 – the college’s tutoring training class – within a year of being hired.
Working as a tutor offers several benefits, including mastery of a specific discipline, training and experience in tutoring and education and earning professional certification from the College Reading and Learning Association.
