New Degrees Guarantee Admission to CSUs

Southwestern College students now have an educational pathway that guarantees them entrance into schools in the California State University system.
Through Associate in Arts-Transfer (AA-T) and Associate in Sciences-Transfer (AS-T) degrees, students earn half of the 120 credits needed for their major at Southwestern College and the remaining half at a CSU school.
“In essence, students are earning two degrees—an associate’s degree and a bachelor’s degree,” said Dr. Melinda Nish, superintendent/president.
Eighteen majors currently offered at Southwestern College are fully aligned with bachelor’s degree programs in the CSU system: Administration of Justice, Anthropology, Art History, Business Administration, Communications Studies, English, Geography, History, Kinesiology, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Studio Arts, Theatre Arts.
The Associate Degree for Transfer program gives Southwestern College students an important advantage when applying at the competitive universities.
“Students who work hard at Southwestern now have a clear path into some of the best universities in the country,” Nish said.
Current students and new community college students are encouraged to stop by the transfer center and meet with a counselor to create an educational plan. Current high school students are also encouraged to choose a major that relates to their interest and contact a college counselor.
