Inspiring Speakers Await Southwestern College Students

From homeless to Harvard and now to HUBU. Local community members, including a medical doctor, bank executive, attorney and inspiring educator Doug Luffborough, will spend the afternoon with students as part of the Hermanos Unidos, Brothers United (HUBU) workshop. The workshop is designed to promote the success of African American and Latino male students.
Speakers are selected to show students the steps they took to become successful in college and their profession.
This year’s keynote speaker is Doug Luffborough who will tell his tale of being homeless as a teenager, but working hard and attending Northeastern University in Boston. He was chosen as the Student Commencement Speaker for his class and preceded then US President Bill Clinton. President Clinton was so impressed with Doug’s tenacity and drive that he invited him and his mother to the White House.
The event will be held Thursday, April 25 in Room L238 (across from the library), from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
