Summer Readiness Program at Southwestern College

The Summer Readiness Program at Southwestern College is more than just summer school. It's a full college immersion program that prepares local high school students for a successful transition to Southwestern College. Over the summer, students take two college courses at Southwestern College. They get a chance to meet their counselors, meet their new classmates (and possibly new best friends) and they participate in social and cultural activities all while getting to know ins and outs of their new home campus.

Under the Influence, hosted by Health Services and Campus Police, teaches students the dangers of drunk driving by putting them through a simulated drunk driving obstacle course and mock DUI checkpoints.

Professor Mark Van Stone keeps Maya history alive in new campus buildings

Art Professor Mark Van Stone has designed Maya glyphs for each of the new buildings at Southwestern College, including the new Wellness and Aquatic Complex. 3D Printing at Southwestern College

Through STEM classes and clubs like the Society of Women Engineers, the Math and Science Club, Southwestern College students are learning how to use 3d printers and create objects. Engineering major Giselle Romo has made Stormtroopers, a lightsaber, a Yoda pumpkin and a gray shark named "Mr. Jaws."

More than 2,000 students will graduate this year from Southwestern College and head off to continue their educational or workforce goals and dreams. We stopped a few of them one afternoon on Jaguar Walk and asked them, "Who would you like to thank?" for helping them along the way.

Southwestern College Dance Students Prepare for Annual Concert ‘On Stage’
